    QB Brett Favre
If Brett Favre is coming back it will depend on how his shoulder responds to recent surgery and, if he does return, it will only be with Minnesota. No decision will be made until mid-July when he will be able to test the shoulder.

    WR Dennis Northcutt
The Lions have acquired 31-year-old WR Dennis Northcutt from Jacksonville. He'll likely play the slot receiver role between starters Calvin Johnson and Bryant Johnson. The Jaguars felt Northcutt was expendable after selecting three rookie receivers - Mike Thomas (4th round), Jarrett Dillard (5th) and Tiquan Underwood (7th) – in this year's draft. Torry Holt is expected to be the Jags number one receiver this season and Mike Walker is projected as their number two guy. However, Walker's job is less certain leaving open the possibility of one of the first year guys to step up.
    6/15/2009 12:02:43 PM
    WR Brandon Marshall
Brandon Marshall has now missed two “mandatory" days at Bronco camp as it is increasing evident he's trying to play hardball to squeeze a new contract out of Denver. Even though recent hip surgery prohibits Marshall from practicing, head coach Josh McDaniels still wants him to attend team meetings. Remember, Denver is installing a new offense, so even classroom attendance is important. Marshall, his agent, McDaniels and team owner Pat Bowlen met last Friday, but the fact that Marshall failed to report on Saturday meant that there was no resolution.

Two things became clearly apparent during the “Cutler debacle" back April. Bowlen is letting McDaniels call the shots and, as we saw what happened with Cutler, McDaniels doesn't let a player force his hand. That might ultimately be the case with Marshall. Fantasy-wise, Marshall's uncertainty is sending his fantasy stock south in the early and mock drafts, but maybe a trade wouldn't be all that bad. The Bears need receiving help and the Marshall-Cutler combo has clicked before.

On a more upbeat note, the Broncos took some of the guesswork out of the QB position by naming Kyle Orton the starter.

    WR Plaxico Burress
Is Plaxico draftable? ESPN is reporting that the court hearing of the case against former New York Giants WR Plaxico Burress has been adjourned until September. He faces felony gun charges for an incident last November. It's possible that further delays could open the door for Burress to play this season. In fact, his attorney thinks that if there is a trial it wouldn't be until 2010. While the Jets, Chicago and Tampa Bay are rumored to be strongly interested in signing the free agent, the NFL still could take disciplinary action against Burress.

    RB Brian Westbrook
There has been no shortage of fantasy speculation about Brian Westbrook since it was announced that he was to undergo surgery to remove bone spurs on his chronically sore ankle. Will he be the same back as he once was or has the injury bug finally caught up with him? Well, according to the Eagles, his procedure was a success, but it still doesn't answer the question of whether he'll hold up all season long. Obviously, no one knows that but there's more reason to question him than there was a few months ago.
    6/5/2009 1:44:11 PM
    K Adam Vinatieri
Even though the Colts say kicker Adam Vinatieri will be good to go for training camp, anytime a player at his position has hip surgery (which Vinatieri had today) it sends up a red flag. We'll get our next look at him in August and that should tell us if the surgery will affect his fantasy value.
    4/30/2009 6:17:26 PM
    TE Alex Smith
The Patriots have acquired TE Alex Smith from Tampa Bay. Smith became expendable after the Bucs picked up Kellen Winslow in a trade with Cleveland several weeks ago. Smith's fantasy value doesn't appear to gain any in his new surroundings. It appears he'll be behind starter Benjamin Watson.
    4/29/2009 7:37:19 AM
    RB Edgerrin James
To little surprise, James has been released by Arizona. The Cardinals' drafting of RB Beanie Wells pretty much sealed James' fate, but the team also wants to clear salary cap space in order to sign Anquan Boldin to a new deal.
    4/23/2009 2:48:42 PM
    TE Tony Gonzalez
Tony Gonzalez has been pushing for a trade and, now, he has been granted his wish. The 36-year-old, 10-time Pro-Bowl tight end has been dealt to the Atlanta Falcons. We don't think the deal hurts Gonzalez's fantasy value. He has been putting up terrific stats under quarterbacks like Damon Huard, Tyler Thigpen and Brodie Croyle the last couple of seasons. After last season, Atlanta's Matt Ryan looks better than the KC contingent. Getting a target of Gonzalez's caliber will help Ryan, but Matt Cassel, the Chiefs' projected starter this year, loses in this deal.
    4/21/2009 8:18:45 AM
    WR Torry Holt
Torry Holt has signed with the wide-receiver starved Jacksonville Jaguars. Holt, who turns 33 in a few months, was released by St. Louis earlier this year. The Jaguars are in need of receiving help after parting ways with much-troubled Matt Jones and a disappointing Reggie Williams. Holt joins a receiving corps that also includes Mike Walker, Dennis Northcutt and Troy Williamson.
    4/9/2009 12:22:00 PM
    RB Marshawn Lynch
According to the NFL, Bills' RB Marshawn Lynch will have to sit out the first three games of the 2009 season; a suspension he incurred for violating the league's personal conduct policy. It's months away still, but Fred Jackson will likely start for Lynch during his absence and we think Jackson will have fantasy value beyond just these three games.
    3/21/2009 10:26:44 AM
    TE L.J. Smith
TE LJ Smith's fantasy value didn't look very good to begin with for 2009, but his decision to sign with Baltimore confirms he'll be of little factor. Smith was not going to return to Philadelphia as the Eagles are prepared to go with Brent Celek as their starter. However, joining a team where he'll be the number two tight end (behind Todd Heap), was not good for Smith's fantasy value.
    3/14/2009 11:05:45 AM
St. Louis has decided that Torry Holt's $8 + million salary is too pricey and has released the 32-year-old veteran. This currently leaves the Rams very thin in experience at wide receiver. Both Donnie Avery and Keenan Burton are entering their second season with the team. Holt will find a new home, but his fantasy value won't be determined until we know which team he goes to.
    2/28/2009 7:08:44 PM
    QB Matt Cassel
The Patriots' trade of QB Matt Cassel to Kansas City has a couple of fantasy repercussions. He'll start for the Chiefs eliminating Tyler Thigpen and Brodie Croyle from consideration. Also, New England's willingness to part with Cassel also sends the message that they're convinced that Tom Brady's knee is OK.
    2/27/2009 12:31:39 PM
    TE Kellen Winslow
Winslow is a Buc. Cleveland has traded oft-injured tight end Kellen Winslow to Tampa Bay for undisclosed draft picks. His departure seemingly opens the door for backup Martin Rucker who was drafted in the fourth round last year. Winslow's arrival in Tampa puts in question the fantasy values of Alex Smith and Jerramy Stevens.
    2/27/2009 11:26:22 AM
    QB Sage Rosenfels
Minnesota could have a new starting quarterback in 2009. They have traded for Sage Rosenfels who has been Matt Schaub's backup in Houston the last two seasons. Although the Vikings say that the 31-year-old Rosenfels will compete with Tarvaris Jackson for the starting job, we have to think it's Rosenfels to lose. Jackson has not distinguished himself the last two seasons. A plus for Rosenfels is that Minnesota's passing game is similar to that run in Houston.
    2/17/2009 12:16:37 PM
    RB Deuce McAllister
In an effort to pare down payroll and remain under the salary cap, the Saints have released RB Deuce McAllister. Unless they re-sign him at a lower salary, this move signals that New Orleans is convinced that Pierre Thomas can be the complimentary back to Reggie Bush. In a limited role last season, Thomas racked up 12 TDs.

Dennis Northcutt / WR / Det

Northcutt has been acquired by Detroit in a trade with Jacksonville. He'll likely fill the slot receiver role between starters Calvin Johnson and Bryant Johnson.
      • 6/18/2009 4:45:06 PM

Donte Stallworth / WR / Cle

Stallworth has been suspended indefinitely by the NFL following his recent DUI/manslaughter conviction. We seriously doubt he?ll have much, if any, fantasy impact in ?09. The Browns are scrambling to find a receiver to play opposite Braylon Edwards. They signed free agents David Patten and Mike Furrey during the off-season, but word has it that rookies Brian Robiskie and Mohamed Massaquoi will get long looks in camp too.
      • 6/17/2009 11:40:38 AM

Cleo Lemon / QB / FA

Lemon has been released by Jacksonville. Todd Bouman moves into the second slot behind David Garrard.
      • 6/16/2009 3:01:10 PM

Donte Stallworth / WR / Cle

Stallworth has pleaded guilty to a DUI manslaughter charge and will begin serving a 30-day jail sentence immediately. This will be followed by two years of house arrest. He will also likely face discipline by the NFL for violating the league?s personal conduct policy. While Stallworth?s fantasy status is the least of what should be considered here ? a man was killed because of Stallworth's carelessness ? he?s unlikely to be a factor in 2009.
      • 6/16/2009 10:13:17 AM

Brandon Lloyd / WR / Den

Following his release from Chicago, Lloyd has signed with Denver. His signing is a bit interesting since Brandon Marshall has made a request to the Broncos that they trade him and Lloyd played last season with new Denver starting QB Kyle Orton.
