    Scouting Report from the Magazine

With rookie Joe Flacco at quarterback last season, Heap was asked to do more blocking than receiving. As a result, he had no more than two receptions in 10 games and offered little fantasy value. A more seasoned Flacco and the addition of free agent TE L.J. Smith hint that Heap will return to more of a receiving role, but we still wouldn’t take that chance with him. Offensive coordinator Cam Cameron said last season that “tight ends in our system have to be blockers first.” Not exactly what fantasy owners like to hear. This team is built on running the ball.

    Grogans' Take:

Heap will offer better value this year, but not enough for him to be a fantasy starter. We view him as a mid-range backup.

LaDainian Tomlinson / RB / SD

Look for Tomlinson to be elsewhere in 2010. L.T. told The San Diego Union-Tribune today that he will not be with the Chargers next season. ?I?m not coming back,? said Tomlinson, who added that he believes the Chargers will release him.

Wes Welker / WR / NE

Welker underwent successful knee surgery today to repair a torn ACL suffered in Week 17. At this time, projections for his return vary. Optimistically, he might be ready for the season opener in September, but realistically, it's likely to be much later. A torn ACL is a more devastating injury for a receiver who has to make sharp, precise cuts. We don't think we'll see him until the latter half of the '10 season.

Kurt Warner / QB / FA

Fantasy lost one of its premier QBs today when Warner announced his retirement. It would seem that Matt Leinart's time has now finally come, but only time will tell if he's truly ready to make the leap to being a starter.
