Saturday, August 15, 2009 Jackson directed the Vikings to a field goal in about two quarters of action in the team's first preseason game Friday. Sage Rosenfels, however, perhaps gained an edge in the Vikings' QB battle by leading Minnesota to 10 points on his first two series while starting and playing a little over one quarter. Jackson is expected to start Minnesota's next preseason game.
Wednesday, August 05, 2009 After spraining his left knee Saturday in practice, Jackson returned to the Vikings’ practice field Wednesday. He reported no problems with the knee and participated in all but one team drill. Jackson is contending with Sage Rosenfels for the starting job.
Scouting Report from the Magazine
Vikings coach Brad Childress contends that Jackson has a valid chance to win the quarterback battle against Minnesota’s top free agent acquisition, Sage Rosenfels. But it appears that Rosenfels has the edge given his tenure in the league (eight years) and the success he enjoyed filling in for the injured Matt Schaub in Houston. Jackson hasn’t exactly helped his cause. He has started 19 games in his three-year career and only four times has he managed to throw more than one TD pass in a game. He has been shut out in seven games. The Vikings’ quarterback situation is risky. Even with Rosenfels in the fold, the team will continue to explore possibilities.
Grogans' Take:
With such uncertainty at quarterback, it’s too risky to consider Jackson anything but a lower-round pick in a deep draft.
Look for Tomlinson to be elsewhere in 2010. L.T. told The San Diego Union-Tribune today that he will not be with the Chargers next season. ?I?m not coming back,? said Tomlinson, who added that he believes the Chargers will release him.
Welker underwent successful knee surgery today to repair a torn ACL suffered in Week 17. At this time, projections for his return vary. Optimistically, he might be ready for the season opener in September, but realistically, it's likely to be much later. A torn ACL is a more devastating injury for a receiver who has to make sharp, precise cuts. We don't think we'll see him until the latter half of the '10 season.
Fantasy lost one of its premier QBs today when Warner announced his retirement. It would seem that Matt Leinart's time has now finally come, but only time will tell if he's truly ready to make the leap to being a starter.
Stewart had successful surgery on his left Achilles' tendon, Wednesday, January 20th. He is expected to be healthy to participate in the Panthers' minicamp in May.
