Wednesday, December 09, 2009 Clemens will start for Mark Sanchez (knee) in Week 14 against Tampa Bay.
Tuesday, August 25, 2009 Clemens had an opportunity to gain some ground in the Jets' QB battle after taking over for ineffective rookie Mark Sanchez against the Ravens on Monday night, but he struggled, too. Clemens threw an interception that was returned for a TD (a fate that also befell Sanchez) and tossed a 28-yard TD pass to David Clowney while going 5-of-10 for 60 yards.
Saturday, August 15, 2009 Clemens started the Jets' preseason opener and was 4-for-4 for 24 yards in two series, leading the Jets to a field goal on one drive and fumbling while being sacked on the other. Mark Sanchez played just one series because of the Jets' thinness in the starting offensive line. The rookie completed a 48-yard pass to WR David Clowney on his first throw and led a 93-yard TD drive.
Friday, August 07, 2009 It settled nothing, but rookie Mark Sanchez had a better outing than Clemens in the Jets' scrimmage Friday. The offense went three-and-out in all three possessions with Clemens under center. Coach Rex Ryan hopes to select his starting QB before the team's third preseason game.
Scouting Report from the Magazine
There are plenty of risks in drafting Clemens even as a low-end fantasy backup. He’s an unknown commodity who has had only eight starts (all in 2007) during his three-year career (five TDs). The Jets also paid a big price (two draft picks and three players) to move up and select Mark Sanchez in this year’s draft, so the rookie looms large. Regardless of who starts, though, the fantasy opportunity will be limited. New coach Rex Ryan comes from a Baltimore system that stressed the running game over the passing attack, and he is unlikely to turn into Mike Martz in New York. Look for the Jets’ quarterback to manage games in a very conservative offense.
Grogans' Take:
Whether he comes away with the starting job or not, Clemens carries too much risk to make him worth drafting even in a deep league.
Look for Tomlinson to be elsewhere in 2010. L.T. told The San Diego Union-Tribune today that he will not be with the Chargers next season. ?I?m not coming back,? said Tomlinson, who added that he believes the Chargers will release him.
Welker underwent successful knee surgery today to repair a torn ACL suffered in Week 17. At this time, projections for his return vary. Optimistically, he might be ready for the season opener in September, but realistically, it's likely to be much later. A torn ACL is a more devastating injury for a receiver who has to make sharp, precise cuts. We don't think we'll see him until the latter half of the '10 season.
Fantasy lost one of its premier QBs today when Warner announced his retirement. It would seem that Matt Leinart's time has now finally come, but only time will tell if he's truly ready to make the leap to being a starter.
Stewart had successful surgery on his left Achilles' tendon, Wednesday, January 20th. He is expected to be healthy to participate in the Panthers' minicamp in May.
