    RapidDraft - It's Weekly, and it's FREE

    Posted on 12/16/2009 2:29:05 PM

If you’ve missed out on playing the RapidDraft fantasy football game, now is the time to give it a shot. The people at RapidDraft have decided to let everyone play for FREE for the remainder of the NFL’s regular season. They are giving away a $1,000 guaranteed first prize as well as $50,000 if you can draft the perfect team.

The draft, of course, is one of the highlights of the fantasy season, so you must check out this game. It is as close as you can get to the experience of real-time drafting. You draft against 11 “fantasy pros” such as myself and Dan. On our side, we provide our weekly rankings of players and defensive/special teams and indicate our preferences on several other aspects of the draft. That determines how each each “pro” conducts his draft. Our avatar is Felix, and he will be drafting against you along with 10 other pros. One of the cool things is that you can select your own drafting position. If you want the first pick, it’s yours. Another great feature RapidDraft offers is that you can draft one time per draft position. That’s 12 free drafts per week.

Dan and I have signed up for our teams and we highly recommend it! There are a lot of really cool features, but I especially like the fact that you can set the draft for “warp speed.” The 11 pros go very quickly, but when you are on the clock you can take your time and review the players available. You draft only your starting team on rosters that consist of one QB, two RBs, three WRs, one Flex, one kicker and one defense/special team. In reality, the draft can take as little as 15 minutes.

As we all know, the last few weeks of the NFL regular season can be filled with a few surprises. We might not see Peyton Manning or Drew Brees play an entire game based on playoff situations. I think this could be to the advantage of the individual playing for free. With 12 free drafts per week, you sure can take some chances that you normally wouldn’t when you are drafting your team in preseason. Give it a try and we know you will have as much fun playing this game as we do.

LaDainian Tomlinson / RB / SD

Look for Tomlinson to be elsewhere in 2010. L.T. told The San Diego Union-Tribune today that he will not be with the Chargers next season. ?I?m not coming back,? said Tomlinson, who added that he believes the Chargers will release him.

Wes Welker / WR / NE

Welker underwent successful knee surgery today to repair a torn ACL suffered in Week 17. At this time, projections for his return vary. Optimistically, he might be ready for the season opener in September, but realistically, it's likely to be much later. A torn ACL is a more devastating injury for a receiver who has to make sharp, precise cuts. We don't think we'll see him until the latter half of the '10 season.

Fantasy lost one of its premier QBs today when Warner announced his retirement. It would seem that Matt Leinart's time has now finally come, but only time will tell if he's truly ready to make the leap to being a starter.
